Jesus promised He would build His Church, and the gates of hell would not prevail against her. In Jesus' estimation, there is no such thing as a church that He builds that is not at the gates of hell or that is insulated from Spiritual Warfare. Church planting is hard work, but what if God left us a witness as to how He builds His House? What if there was a way in which to build that brings Him pleasure? Zechariah was observing this exact scenario, building the house of God in the context of human and spiritual resistance, and God sent Zechariah to encourage the builders on what the culture of His house would look like and how to build in a way that pleases Him: in the power of His Gospel and by the anointing of His Spirit. Whether you are a first-time church planter, or a long-time pastor who is aware of the need to build how God wants to build, Zechariah tells us what God desires from His chosen leaders in the culture of His House and His method for building that which will prevail at the gates of hell.
